A Vibrant Town Drawing People from Both Sides of the Humber

Just a short journey from Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe, the friendly town of Barton is a very popular choice for relocation. Situated on the south bank of the River Humber, more and more people are choosing this relaxed lifestyle whilst retaining quick access to major centres of business and retail.

With a population of around 11,000, Barton is a nice size and benefits from a strong sense of community. This could be due to the huge range of bars and eateries available, making it perfect for everything from a pub crawl to a family night out. Good examples are Harrisons Restaurant, which makes an excellent Sunday dinner, plus The Sloop Inn and The Wheatsheaf, presenting proper pints and traditional surroundings.

If you like your coffee culture, you’ll love the Gingerbread Cafe, which serves traditional Afternoon Tea on a three-tier stand. Then there’s the Ropery Café inside The Ropewalk, a regionally acclaimed centre for art, film, theatre, music and comedy.

When you fancy a leisurely stroll, there’s no better spot that Baysgarth Park. Amongst thirty acres of beautiful recreational space that’s home to a great number of native flora and fauna, you’ll find Baysgarth House. This is a museum illustrating the area’s long natural history, including archaeological artefacts. It’s perfect for a family day out and a great way to better understand how the town came to be.

Many young people, families and retired couples move from Hull to Barton due to it being so close to the city, yet entirely removed from city life. Here you can relax without the hustle and bustle of constant traffic, often discovering little pockets of the town that offer total sanctuary. It really is an attractive place to live and proves especially popular with parents and dog owners.

Additionally, with the Humber Bridge so close by, within a few minutes you can be on the other side of the river to enjoy the Humber Bridge Country Park. This gorgeous natural space includes a pond trail, cliff trail and meadow trail, as well as numerous places to enjoy a picnic. There’s also the Humber Bridge Farmers’ Market, which takes place on the first Sunday of every month from 9am to 1pm. With fresh, local produce ranging from fruit and veg to meat and coffee, it’s a great opportunity to pick up something delicious.

The team at our Barton branch know the town very well and many of them are residents. This means that they can answer any questions that pop into your head, from school catchment areas and league tables, to the best place to play a game of football or spot some local wildlife.
