Reviewing your home insurance policy is a must as a homeowner as you're sure to add value to your property over time, as well as make investments where belongings are concerned that may need increased levels of cover.
Figures from MoneySuperMarket show that Brits are actually underinsuring their home contents to the tune of £20,000 on average. What's more, it's important to remember that items kept in the shed, garage or garden are not always included on home contents cover at all.
Kevin Pratt, insurance expert with the price comparison site, reminded people just how important it is not to undervalue the contents in your home in order to secure a cheaper policy. If you do this, you may well find that you're not fully covered in the event that you do need to make a claim.
"As well as making sure they have enough overall contents cover, people should also ensure they itemise specific high value items on their policy - insurers want detail on any possessions likely to be worth £1,000 or more," he went on to say.
Given recent research from The Co-op Insurance revealing that 18 per cent of people leave their sheds unlocked, 16 per cent leave items in the garden that could be used to break windows and 15 per cent have left the house with the windows open, it certainly seems a good idea to check your home contents insurance to make sure you have adequate cover in place.
